Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning

What is an Estate?

An estate is all of the real and personal property that a person owns. Upon death, a person's estate must be distributed.

Why is Estate Planning important?

Simply, it saves your beneficiaries time and money. Without an estate plan your real and personal property must go through the long and costly process of probate. Secondly, with an estate plan your property will not go through the court system, keeping your financial and property matters private.

With an estate plan you decide where your property goes and how it is distributed. Without planning, the state determines where your assets go upon death and administers your estate which may include paying substantial and unnecessary estate taxes.

How will an Estate Plan help while you are still living?

Your estate plan allows you the power to choose who will make your medical and financial decisions should you no longer be able to make those decisions on your own. It is also important in protecting you from being subject to a court appointed guardian or other court involvement in your affairs in the instance of incapacitation.

Every Estate Plan is unique & personal to reflect your wishes!

Your estate plan should reflect your values and your circumstances. It should take into account what is best for you and your heirs. Here at the Lansing, Michigan Law Offices of Anthony J. Szilagyi, PLLC, we will tailor an estate plan to fit your needs.
